rehearsal sketches

greeting cards

During long tech rehearsals for the broadway show, Carousel, I would have a lot of downtime, so I would bring along my sketchpad and micron pens, grab a seat in the house and doodle away. It started with vintage pictures of Maine, lighthouses, millhouses where Carousel is set and then I moved on to national parks, and places around the world, which sounded way more appealing than sitting in a cold, dark theatre. After posting my sketches on my instastories last year, I kept getting requests from folks about selling them so I posted a collection here.

For anyone familiar with the broadway show, The Great Comet, you know about the moment at the start of Act 2 (Love Letters) when each cast member would pass out handwritten love letters to audience members. What started for me as writing just a simple few sentences slowly grew into intricate drawings of Russian themed bears, flowers with catchy phrases, etc. Every night, my letters would became more & more elaborate (perhaps a slight competition with my dressing roommates). Since I would only make and give one away each night, fans of the show started asking me to sell them. Some of my original love letter sketches happen to make great greeting cards and are an homage to those love letters and my wonderful time being a part of The Great Comet.
